ABOUT US...
The BBC Scottish Symphony Club has been supporting the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years. All are welcome, whether you live locally and are able to attend our events, or wish to support the Orchestra from afar.
We are continually looking for new ways to support the wonderful BBC SSO; most recently, we have commissioned a set of short pieces from the Scottish composer Edward McGuire for the Orchestra to use as encores on tour.
The Club organises frequent events for members, chances to meet each other as well as opportunities to get to know the BBC SSO players. We have regular Evening Concerts, featuring players from the Orchestra in small chamber groups. These are very popular events with a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. Listening to the orchestra members in a different context, in chamber music repertoire, is a real treat and has led to so many unforgettable evenings.
As well as our Evening Concerts, we offer Club members the opportunity to attend several rehearsals throughout the season. These are exclusive events with limited ticket availability. This is an unmissable opportunity to see conductors such as Donald Runnicles and Ilan Volkov.
Each year at the end of the season, the Club hosts an Annual Reception in Glasgow, for the BBC SSO and Club members. This is another opportunity to meet each other and to raise a glass together. Details of all events are posted on the Events page of the website.
The BBC Scottish Symphony Club is run by a small committee, chaired by Eileen A. Robertson (above).
